Theatre Royal and Free Palestine Central Victoria (FPCV) proudly present an afternoon of film, Mutual Aid Markets and fundraising for families in Palestine.
Screening at 4pm will be the documentary by Sepideh Farsi – PUT YOUR SOUL ON YOUR HAND AND WALK, an inspiring portrait of Palestinian photojournalist Fatma Hassona, whose defiant images of life in Gaza bring both hope and tragic consequences. The film screened during MIFF earlier this year.
Fatma Hassona, a 25-year-old photojournalist and poet from the Gaza Strip, dedicated her life to documenting the conditions in which Palestinians are forced to exist. In this documentary, beautifully and movingly pieced together from video calls between her and Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi recorded throughout 2024 as Israel’s war on Gaza raged, Hassona builds a visual diary conveying the everyday plight of her people and the suffering being inflicted upon displaced and orphaned children. Even amid the death and destruction of constant missile strikes, her message remains one of dignity, humanity and hope.

On 16 April 2025, the day after it was announced the film was going to premiere at Cannes, an Israeli missile killed Hassona and her family in what was alleged to have been a targeted assassination. In paying tribute to Hassona’s memory and reminding us not to look away from the injustices of the world, Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk is more than just a powerful work of cinema – it’s a documentary that demands to be witnessed.

“A film with similarities to the Oscar-winning No Other Land in how it brings an individual perspective to unimaginable events … Farsi’s film now stands as a powerful memorial to someone who was both ordinary and extraordinary.” – Screen Daily

Session times:

Dine in or takeaway pizza Tuesday – Sunday

Semi-sourdough pizza made with organic ingredients and a very little amount of yeast. The magic is in the fermentation process, which takes up to 72 hours. Each pizza is then balled up and hand-stretched to order. We cook our pizza in a 500c oven with a stone floor. The effect is a thin, crisp base with a puffy, leopard-spotted crust. No bookings required.
