The Theatre Royal stands on Djaara Country. We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Dja Dja Wurrung people, as traditional custodians of the land, and to their elders past, present and emerging. We extend that respect to all First Nations people and we acknowledge that Aboriginal sovereignty has not been ceded.

Set in the heart of Castlemaine, the Theatre Royal is the longest continuously operating theatre on the mainland. Winner of the best Regional Music Venue, five times running, the theatre hosts some amazing local and international artists.
CINEMA
Our 200-seat cinema shows the best new commercial, arthouse and foreign releases. Ice-cream, popcorn and drinks available. No pre-bookings for regular film sessions
Dine in or takeaway pizza Tuesday – Sunday
Semi-sourdough pizza made with organic ingredients and a very little amount of yeast. The magic is in the fermentation process, which takes up to 72 hours. Each pizza is then balled up and hand-stretched to order. We cook our pizza in a 500c oven with a stone floor. The effect is a thin, crisp base with a puffy, leopard-spotted crust. No bookings required.
Bar and Bottle Shop
Open from Tuesday to Sunday, serving cocktails, local & international wines, beer and an extensive array of non-alcoholic offerings. You can also enjoy a drink in the cinema. Our Bottle Shop is open during our regular opening hours. Take home anything from our drinks menu, along with a selection of Australian and European wines, premium digestifs and packaged beer.

Venue Hire
TR offers a unique space as a wedding or party venue, allowing you and your cohorts to take over the venue and put on your own rock and roll party! A large, paved, beautiful garden space can hold up to 300 people for a ceremony outdoors before heading inside to make full use of the famous music venue’s stage, dance floor, cinema screen and historical atmosphere.
