To co-incide with Refugee Week, Rural Australians for Refugees (RAR) Castlemaine & Theatre Royal proudly present ‘Journey Beyond Fear’.
Journey Beyond Fear is an inspirational film following a teenage girl and her Afghan refugee family in Malaysia as they wait for, an eventually achieve resettlement in Australia.

****4 out of 5 stars … a journey well worth taking – David Stratton

Following the screening there will be a Q&A with the filmmakers, Robyn Hughan (Producer/Director) & Steve Warne (Co-Producer), hosted by Elly Varrenti.

Told through the eyes of a teenage girl and her refugee family in pursuit of resettlement, this emotional roller coaster takes us from despair to joy through hope, humour and love – shattering prevailing stereotypes. A character driven film, featuring three magnetic daughters and shot over 7 years in Malaysia and Australia, it’s an extraordinary psychological study of the effects of refugee status. We experience how even the system for seeking asylum the “right way” is incredibly challenging, but that those who make it are hugely thankful, can be welcomed by fellow Australians and are eager to contribute to Australian society.

Session times:

Dine in or takeaway pizza Tuesday – Sunday

Semi-sourdough pizza made with organic ingredients and a very little amount of yeast. The magic is in the fermentation process, which takes up to 72 hours. Each pizza is then balled up and hand-stretched to order. We cook our pizza in a 500c oven with a stone floor. The effect is a thin, crisp base with a puffy, leopard-spotted crust. No bookings required.
