SUNDAY OCTOBER 5 – 2:00PM
Zeus, the Greek God, bored by Mt. Olympus, decides to take his magical circus of extraordinary performers and mythological creatures to Castlemaine just for a lark.
The unsuspecting town is hit with magic, myth and mayhem, changing a few lives dramatically before the Circus disappears as mysteriously as it came. A comedy that borders on surreal whimsy. Directed by Teana Amor.
From the filmmaker:
“What started out as a mother’s angst at so many good country kids being turned into abominable train wrecks due to ice addiction; became a light-hearted Community project that restored some sanity with its comedy and quirkiness. Taking nine years to complete, child actors grew 15cm, precious actor friends sadly died and the script adapted, the mermaid became pregnant and my partners in film and I became septuagenarians. We weathered the two-year lockdown by editing prior footage, built and painted more props and kept our hopes up. By having the good fortune to be chosen by the State Festival’s She-d Program, the Castlemaine Goods Shed played an integral role as did the iconic Theatre Royal, thanks to Tim and Felicity.
With previous experience of two short films, this is my first full length feature film. It was only made possible by the unwavering ingenuity of Barry Martin who built things he’d never dreamed of, the generous time/ideas/second camera provided by Robbie Noakes and by the immense support of our music and arts mob of friends and family who all enthusiastically agreed to be part of it. Castlemaine, we love you!” – Teana Amor
